Employment in Delaware, Ohio

Manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and automotive suppliers — plus a real Columbus-region commute, job fairs, free career help and in-demand jobs. This page is about the Ohio city, not the state of Delaware.

What the mix looks like

Choose Delaware OH (city economic development) reports more than 1,360 businesses and 17,000+ workers locally, with a spread across:

  • Health services (~16%)
  • Manufacturing (~13%)
  • Retail and education (each ~11%)
  • Transportation and logistics (~9%)

Shares are from the city’s published industry mix and can shift year to year.

Sector deep-dive

Healthcare: OhioHealth is a major employer and care system in the county seat — clinical, administrative, and support roles turn up regularly.

Manufacturing: Names tied to the city include PPG Industries, Henkel, Vertiv, and others in metals, process, and industrial products.

Logistics: Access to U.S. 23 and I-71 supports distribution. City materials highlight operations such as the Kroger Great Lakes Distribution Center and Advanced Auto Parts.

Automotive suppliers: Mobility and auto-aftermarket firms (including JEGS headquarters/distribution) sit in the same Central Ohio corridor — skilled trades, warehouse, and office roles.

Commute reality

A Delaware, Ohio address works for jobs in the city and for roles in Lewis Center, Polaris, Worthington, Dublin, and downtown Columbus. That only works if the drive works for you.

  • Try the trip at 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. before you accept an offer or sign a lease.
  • U.S. 23 is the spine; I-71 is often the backup when 23 backs up.
  • North Columbus / I-270 jobs are usually shorter than downtown Columbus on a bad day.
  • If you will work in the City of Delaware, ask payroll about the ~1.85% city income tax (verify current rules).

Del’s tip: Verify your commute before you lease. A “25-minute” map estimate can become 40+ minutes in winter or construction season.

What employers are advertising right now

Ohio’s online job-ad data for August 2026 (130,228 ads statewide) shows the busiest categories are transportation & material moving and healthcare practitioners (13% each), then sales (11%), business & finance (9%), management and computer/math (7% each). Within those, heavy & tractor-trailer truck drivers make up about 60% of transportation ads and registered nurses about 28% of healthcare ads. These are statewide numbers, not Columbus-only.
